WHERE TO EAT ON TENERIFE? – TENERIFE FOOD GUIDE

As we have mentioned already what you should try in Tenerife (here), now we want to share with you where to try it. Many places we search before we travel, but we managed to find a few gems on the spot. We will only mention restaurants we really liked and which were really good. That’s short and we hope helpful Tenerife Food Guide.

El Cine  – Tenerife Food Guide

Simple restaurant looking like a fast food bar, but don’t get confused. Fresh fish and sea food mostly grilled and fried, only few options on the menu. As a side: papas arugadas, fries and tomato and onion salad (the best ever!) Do not do it to yourself and do not order fries! Nothing wrong with them but El Cine has the best papas arugadas and mojo sauces we have tried!

We recommend cuttlefish (chocos a la plancha) and octopus (pulpo frito). Pirces are about 7.5-12 euros for a main dish and 3 euros for a side but portions are generous. There is often a line but it worth to wait 15-20 min. We used to drive twice 30km from El Medano for lunch it is so good! Do not be afraid of table wine it is great as well!

Rosso sur Mare – Tenerife Food Guide

Restaurant with elegant décor and professional service. We do like to stick to local cuisine and we encourage everyone to do so. If you need a break, Italian food is always a right choice especially made with fresh local produce. You can everything from Pizza, pasta dishes all the way to osso bucco and saltimbocca. Be portion aware as this can come huge. It is not the budget choice as prices might come steep, 10-18 euro for a starter and around 18-26 eur for a main course. Pizza is 8-14 euro.

Tasca el Lagar – Tenerife Food Guide

Wine and tapas bar serving a wide variety of mostly Spanish and Mediterranean influenced dishes.  Tapas portions are generous so it might be a good idea to order ½ portion if there is 2 of you and you want to try a few. Prices are ok 7-10 euro for a full portion. We recommend goat cheese in a pastry and grilled dates stuffed with almonds and wrapped in lardons. Grilled green peppers (pementos de pardon) were super tasty – bitter and salty as well as the simplest local tomato salad.

El Tanganazo – Tenerife Food Guide

Restaurant recommended by local shopkeeper where we bought wine and banana jam. Local bar and brasserie with simple menu. We had rabbit en salmojero which was on our – to try list – tasty! We have tried pescado con churros which is a fish in churro batter could be better if was a bit crispier. Price for a main course 8-10 euro, unfortunately sides including papas arugadas were 5 euro.

La Venta Marrero Bar Restaurante – Tenerife Food Guide

Beautifully located restaurant with an amazing view where you can sit all day. Family run with excellent fish and seafood choice. Most of dishes are 7-12 euro. We have gone for fish platter which was 28 euro and was enormous – enough for 3 people but super tasty.

Meson la Hijuela – Tenerife Food Guide

Tapas bar with great selection of wines and tavern like décor. Wide selection of dishes with the whole spectrum of prices. We went there for wine cheese and jamon de iberico which was excellent.  We weren’t hungry enough for anything else, but everything looked really tasty.

Meson la Hijuela Tenerife Food Guide

We found food in Tenerife to be of a very good quality made from fresh local produce, simple and tasty. We didn’t really have any major bummer when it comes to restaurant visits. Definitely it would be a mistake to stick to resorts buffet food of pizza places- exploring local cuisine highly recommended.
